Meeting Attendees:

Congressman John Mica was in St. Augustine, Florida for Veteran’s Day ceremonies.  He agreed to meet with the Washburn Family (Donna, Brian, Sammy and Holly) for a “Promise” meeting.  Former president of FlaglerCollege and District 20 Florida State Representative William “Bill” Proctor also attended the meeting.  Representative Proctor offered his office in the Proctor Library at FlaglerCollege for the meeting.   The Washburn’s talked about how much they appreciated the Congressman taking time out of their busy schedules to meet with them and for taking the time to Promise to Remember their daughter, Sammy, who lives with Type I diabetes.  They explained how Sammy has dealt with diabetes for 6 years and will soon be using a remote controlled Omnipod insulin pump.  They stressed how this remarkable device is a reality thanks to the continued funding for diabetes research. The amazing research that is going on to help find a cure for diabetes was also discussed.  Sammy asked it they would like to prick their finger for a blood test, but they respectfully declined!   The Washburn’s reported that both Representatives’ Mica and Proctor were genuinely caring and concerned. They asked that they be sent information to keep them informed and said they would do their best to support our kids!
