Thank you for visiting the Promise Campaign website.
We’re honored to lead JDRF’s sixth Promise to Remember Me Campaign, which will be our most important to date as we call on our Members of Congress to expand funding for diabetes research and to finally make healthcare coverage accessible and affordable for people with type 1 diabetes.
JDRF has had a real impact in Washington, D.C., and our Promise Campaign meetings, which take place across the country with Members, help “drive home” the message that there are millions of people living with diabetes and its complications in every hometown in the U.S.
The 2008 Campaign was a classic example of this impact. We set an ambitious goal of 400 meetings. And our message was bigger and bolder than ever before: asking Congress for $1 billion over the next five years for type 1 diabetes research. Though we fell a bit short of our goal—we completed 374 meetings—we successfully secured an additional $450 million for type 1 research. This represents the second largest sum of money ever provided for type 1 research.
We’re back in 2010 with the same goal—to complete 400 meetings. Our ask this year is for our Members of Congress to make sure that research funding continues to be expanded and that the needs of those with diabetes are included in legislation to reform America’s healthcare system. These needs include access to quality, affordable care without pre-existing condition penalties; access to the latest in diabetes treatments and technology; and appropriate reimbursement levels for endocrinologists and other diabetes care providers.
Our aim as Co-Chairs of the 2010 Promise to Remember Me Campaign is to show each of you—adults and children alike—the power your stories have in convincing Members of Congress how important it is to continue the search for a cure.
