JDRF Advocacy
It has been a busy week here at JDRF Advocacy! On Monday and Tuesday, advocates were fervently fighting for research funding by meeting with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill as a part of JDRF's Government Day event. The attendees met with a total of 504 Member offices! Advocates who were unable to attend Government Day have been bringing the event back to their hometowns by attending Promise Campaign meetings. These meetings are equally as important as those held on Capitol Hill earlier this week, if not more!
As you know, JDRF conducted an extensive advocacy campaign
in 2011 which resulted in FDA
release of draft artificial pancreas guidance
in December. Since then, our team has
completed a thorough analysis of the FDA draft, speaking with many
experts. Overall, we still remain very
encouraged by the guidance – it lays a reasonable pathway for performing AP
research in the U.S.
Last week, we told you that currently 85% of T1Ds are adults and this little piece information generated lots of great feedback from you all. Many of the comments were hopeful and others, about the obstacles you face while beating T1D every day of your life. (Again, I want to thank you for all your thoughts!)
All this activity got us thinking that maybe you’re interested in telling T1D exactly how you feel about it and your plan to beat it every day until we get to a cure! This led us to think about what we could do to capture you thoughts and share them within our Type 1 community.

The holidays are over, so that means it is time to hit the ground running again for the Promise Campaign! We have 271 meetings, and still another week and a half left of recess. I am excited to see what our total will be for this month now that the craziness of the holiday season is done! We will be back with even more Promise information next week, but in the meantime, check out our latest list of recently completed meetings below:
