Promise Blog

Welcome to the Promise Campaign Blog. This is where the story of the Campaign unfolds each day between August 2011 and May 2012. Check back to get the inside scoop on our progress from the JDRF Advocacy staff, catch profiles on JDRF Advocates from across the country and read periodic updates from our co-chairs.

With the start of the Promise Campaign only a week away, you may be wondering what you will be talking about during the meetings with your Members of Congress. Have no fear - you don't have to go into these meetings without guidance from JDRF Advocacy! We have already developed talking points for you to use, which I have summarized in this blog post:

Our Promise Campaign Director, Amanda Russell, sent the email below last night to our advocates nationwide. Please take a minute to check-out JDRF Advocate Pam Sagan's testimony in front of Congress today on the need for the diabetes community to have better access to new technologies.  The hearing will actually start at 10am EDT.  Pam should be on around 10:30am EDT.  You can watch on the House Energy and Commerce Committee's website.   Dear Michael,

The 2011-12 Promise to Remember Me Campaign starts in just a few short weeks, and we are kicking things off with the launch of our new Promise website! The new and improved Campaign website is now even more exciting and engaging for JDRF Advocates. As always, you can sign up to attend and coordinate meetings with your Members of Congress. But there is now so much more! You can become a part of the Promise online community by creating your own Promise profile. You can share that profile with your friends on Facebook, and you can even see who else joined the Campaign to help us reach our goal of 432 meetings!

Check out the final highlight for the 2011 Childrens’ Congress from our camera team, this one features more testimony from award winning actor, Kevin Kline and our delegates. (Apologies for the delay in getting this up for you but I had taken a little vacation right after CC and this clips wasn’t ready by the time I left!) I’ll have another clip or two to share later this week and will also share blogs that our CC delegates have put out about their advocacy in Washington.

We are quickly approaching one of my favorite holidays of the year: Independence Day! This weekend will be filled with barbeques, parades, fireworks and festivals. I am sure that many of you are already on your way to the festivities as I write this! Around July 4th every year, I try think about patriotic things I can do to celebrate the birth of our country. This year, I realized that a great way to do so would be to meet with my Members of Congress on issues important to me!

Over the past few days, you have followed JDRF Children's Congress through our blog and social media. You even had the chance to participate by watching some of our events live on JDRF's USTREAM channel. Now is your chance to experience some of the activities of the delegates for yourself! Yesterday, the Children's Congress delegates met with their Members of Congress on Capitol Hill to bring awareness to diabetes issues. You can experience the excitement of these meetings without leaving your state as a part of the Promise to Remember Me Campaign!
