Promise Blog

Welcome to the Promise Campaign Blog. This is where the story of the Campaign unfolds each day between August 2011 and May 2012. Check back to get the inside scoop on our progress from the JDRF Advocacy staff, catch profiles on JDRF Advocates from across the country and read periodic updates from our co-chairs.

Campaign coordinators have certainly started to take advantage of this week's congressional recess: as of this afternoon, there have been 15 Promise meetings scheduled during the month of November. That puts our total meeting count to 231!

Just yesterday, I put out a challenge to advocates across the nation to schedule 40 Promise meetings in the month of November in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month. Our meeting count for the month was at 2 at the time I was posting, so you can imagine my excitement when I logged in this morning to see that it is up to 10! That brings our total number of meetings scheduled to 226. This makes me confident that  you are up to the challenge, and we will meet our goal! While we wait for more meetings to roll in, check out what happened at some recently completed ones:

Just one week ago, we hit 200 meetings for the Promise Campaign. I am proud to say that as I write this, we currently have had 215 Promise meetings scheduled or held! That means we only need one more meeting to reach the halfway mark to our overall goal of 432. I am excited waiting to see when we reach 216. Until then, check out this week's newly posted Promise meeting feedback:

Last week, the House of Representative went on recess, providing JDRF advocates with the best opportunity in October to meet with their Members of Congress as a part of the Promise Campaign. Now it is the Senate's turn!

On Monday, JDRF advocates in Minnesota held a meeting with Representative John Kline (MN-2). In attendance were two special guests: Cody Theis, 2011 Children's Congress delegate, and AJ Melhus, 2005 Children's Congress delegate. The meeting went so well that AJ, Cody, and Cody's mother Tami decided to record a video to talk about their Promise meeting experience! Check it out: (Please visit the site to view this video)

No, not that recess (sorry kids!). This type of recess is what we get especially excited for here at JDRF Advocacy. The House of Representatives recess starts today, which means that your Member of Congress is home right now!
