Earlier today, Hasan asked you to thank the FDA for releasing encouraging draft guidance for the artificial pancreas. I wanted to show you how our advocates are thanking their Members of Congress as well: in their Promise meetings! This week's meeting digest is our biggest yet, and it shows advocates across the nation thanking their Members of Congress for their help in advancing the artificial pancreas. Check out the list of recently posted summaries below.

JDRF advocates across the country accomplished an enormous feat by reaching our goal of 250 Promise Campaign meetings one month early! We initially set this goal for December 31, but we accomplished it on November 30. However, that doesn't mean we can let up yet! We still need to reach our overall goal of 432 meetings with Members of Congress.

I am extremely elated to tell you that as of this afternoon, we have surpassed our mid-Campaign goal of reaching 250 Promise meetings! Our aim was to schedule or hold that many meetings by December 31, so we have officially hit our mark one month early!

What could be better than watching football after eating turkey on Thanksgiving Day? Reading inspiring stories from JDRF advocates while you do it! Even though Thanksgiving isn't until tomorrow, I wanted to make sure to get you the latest list of recently posted Promise Campaign meeting summaries before our office closed for the holiday. That way you can get a head start on reading through it before the turkey-induced naps set in!
The meeting digest will be back on its regular Thursday schedule next week. For now, check out the holiday edition of the digest below, and don't forget to sign up to attend a meeting of your own while you are on the Promise website!

I get increasingly more excited each day as we continue to inch closer to our goal of 250 Promise meetings through December. As of right now, we have 242 meetings that have been scheduled or completed, which puts us only 8 away! If we are able to reach 250 by the end of November, that would have us at our goal one month early. The closer we get to that magic number, the more excited I get!
Now I want to know when you think we will reach 250 Promise Campaign meetings. Leave me your best guess in the comments below! After you tell me your guess, check out our latest list of recently posted meetings summaries:

As we push forward with our Promise activities for Diabetes Awareness Month (241 meetings...only 9 more to hit 250!), I wanted to share a video we received a short while ago from one of our Grassroots Leadership Team members, Michelle Crouse. Michelle was the Promise Co-chair for the South in 2009-10, and she is nothing short of a rock star for JDRF. Michelle attended the meeting with Representative Robert Aderholt (AL-1) in October, but her son Cameron is the one who ended up being a star! Check out how Cameron was able get the Representative to go the extra mile in the video:

Did you watch the World Diabetes Day webcast yesterday? If you did, you heard all about how important it is to be an advocate. Not only were advocates integral in getting the Special Diabetes Program last year, but they have also been one of the keys to success for the artificial pancreas advocacy campaign this fall. After hearing about all of the great things that advocates have helped accomplish, it is hard not to be inspired to do some advocating of your own!

Over the past month and a half, over 100,000 of you have voiced your support for the artificial pancreas by signing the petition to the FDA. Many of you have also asked what this has to do with Promise meetings. In fact, Promise meetings are a great complement to adding your signature!
Attending a Promise meeting gives you the chance to add more power behind your signature by telling your Member of Congress directly about the need for guidance from the FDA for outpatient trials of the artificial pancreas. As a result of your meeting, your Member of Congress may even call the FDA directly or make a statement on the House or Senate floor in support of your efforts!
