What's YOUR Promise story?

As a participant in a Promise meeting, you are already a winner, but by sharing your stories you can win some great prizes and help JDRF recruit more advocates like you to help us find a cure.

At the end of the Promise to Remember Me 2009-10 Campaign, the JDRF Government Relations office will be recognizing some of the most memorable participant stories with great prizes, including:

  • An all expenses paid trip to JDRF’s 2011 Government Day in Washington, D.C.
  • Recognition on the Promise webpage
  • Commemorative Promise Campaign Pins
  • Promise Campaign Certificates

To win these awards for each of your meeting’s participants, you will need to submit your meeting for consideration in one or more of the categories below. You can enter your meeting by visiting your meeting summary page once it’s posted on our Meeting Summaries page.

  1. Best legislator story from a meeting
You came to tell your story, but ended up leaving your legislator’s office with another interesting story to share. Did you learn that your legislator has an unexpected connection to diabetes? Did one of your child attendees say the darnedest thing during a meeting? Or maybe you had your meeting on an elevator during an unexpected plot twist. Share your stories today…. we’re waiting!
  2. Meeting that made the most impact
Were you able to change your legislator’s position on a type 1 diabetes issue, or convince them to reconsider their perspective? Advocates like you help JDRF build their legislative influence, and we know that your hard work produces results. If you think a spark of magic occurred in your meeting, please share your spirit of hope with others.
  3. Most useful meeting visual
A picture is worth a thousand words, and some of our advocates have heeded this adage literally in previous legislator meetings. Did you use a powerful illustration to show your legislator how you manage your diabetes every day? Or perhaps you used another artistic medium like singing or poetry to express your hope for a cure. We’re excited to discover how you utilized your creativity to tell your personal story.

Coordinate a Meeting In Your Area and Win a Trip TO D.C.!

Did you sign-up to coordinate a meeting in your area? Kudos to you for being a leader in our search for a cure! Not only will you receive a Promise pin and certificate but you’ll also be entered into a drawing to win a trip to Washington, D.C. to attend JDRF’s Government Day event in March 2011. To be eligible for the drawing you must:

  • Schedule and/or hold the meeting before May 1, 2010
  • Make sure the meeting is attended by at least one other advocate from the congressional district/state
  • Submit a picture and summary of the meeting to have posted on the Promise site
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: the more meetings you coordinate the more often your name is entered into the drawing!
  • If you haven’t signed-up to coordinate a local meeting and you would like to, just email us at advocacy@jdrf.org

We’ll also be providing these awards to all of the participants in the Promise meeting with the most attendees as well as those in our milestone meetings: the 100th, 200th, 300th, and 400th meetings.

Can you think of another category we should include?
