Rep. Kevin Brady Meeting Summary - REP-TX-8

Meeting attendees where, from L to R: Doug Clauss, Lauren Clauss (daughter), Rhonda Clauss, and Ryan Clauss (son who has Type 1 Diabetes), Rep. Brady, Curry Smith and Avery Smith (daughter,age 2-1/2, with Type 1 Diabetes), and Deanna Hinnant and Brooks Hinnat (son,age 13, who has Type 1 Diabetes)

There were three families in attendance:
 
1. Deanna Hinnant, with son Brooks (age 13) who has Type 1 Diabetes,
2. Curry Smith, daughter Avery (age 2-1/2) with Type 1 Diabetes
3. Rhonda Clauss, Doug Clauss, son Ryan who has Type 1 Diabetes, and Lauren.

Rhonda brought the statistics up regarding the bill to be passed and emphasized stem cell research and how it specifically may lead to the cure.  Rep. Brady opposes stem cell research but acknowledges the importance of funding medical research in general and hopes to pump as much funding as possible into areas other than stem cell research.
           
Rhonda brought up a local upcoming fundraiser for JDRF, The Second Annual Festival of Trees, and asked if Rep. Brady would attend.  He seemed very interested and promised to attend in some manner, even if that meant something would be read on his behalf in his absence.  He did stress that he would really like to attend.
