The first Bay Area Promise Campaign meeting was held at Representative George Miller's office in Concord and attended by JDRF advocates. Vickie Reno attended with daughters, Elle who is 10 and has type 1 diabetes and Natalie who is seven. In addition to the Renos, Michael Mahre, JDRF Government Relations volunteer, along with Mary Cooper Harkin, an active board member who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was a young adult, were also part of the advocate group. Representative Miller reiterated his support for JDRF and "promised to remember" the advocates when the SDP funding comes before Congress for renewal. In response to Mary's inquiry about attending the East Bay walk, Rep Miller indicated interest providing if it fits his calendar.
