District 4 Advocates Tanya and Katie Nethery and JDRF Staffer Lindsay Masters thank Congressman Aderholt for his support of the SDP renewal.
On January 10th, District 4 advocates Tanya and Katie Nethery, Alabama JDRF Staffer Lindsay Masters, and Michelle and Gretchen Crouse met with Congressman Aderholt to thank him for co-sponsoring H.R. 2762 and the passage of legislation which includes a renewal of the SDP. Tanya, a dedicated JDRF advocate, shared her story of living with diabetes and her continued astonishment over the research advances since her childhood diagnosis at the age of four. She shared that her work with the JDRF and advocacy was further motivated when her own daughter Katie was diagnosed at age four. Tanya was passionate that the work funded by the SDP would cure this disease in Katie's life time. Katie, age 8, shared her feelings about living with diabetes. Congressman Aderholt was interested in the types of research that the $150 million extension of the SDP would continue. Michelle talked about the continuous glucose monitor and the artificial pancreas project, as well as the numerous trials and studies continued by the renewal. Congressman Aderholt remarked on the boundaries to research when it was granted on a year to year basis and recognized the need for a multi year renewal. Lindsay Masters, a recent addition to the Alabama JDRF staff and former resident of District 4 shared her commitment to advocacy. The group thanked Congressman Aderholt for his support of JDRF, diabetes legislation and his continual support for a multi-year renewal of the Special Diabetes Program.
