Rep. Josiah Bonner Jr. Meeting Summary - REP-AL-1

On November 27, 2007 a group of parents and children whose families have been touched by juvenile diabetes met with Congressman Bonner to thank him for his consistent and firm support for funding diabetes research.  In particular, we thanked him for being one of the first Alabama legislators to sign a letter of intent to House Leadership supporting reauthorization of research funding for juvenile diabetes and most recently, for cosponsoring HR 2762- the House bill to reauthorize the Special Diabetes Program.

The meeting included; Rusty and Barbara Johnston and their daughter, Claire; Susan and Bill Speir and their daughter, Lena Cole;  Ellen Wingard and her sons, Lee, and David Cooper; and Will Givhan, both parents of grown children with juvenile diabetes. Claire, Lena Cole, and Lee all told Congressman Bonner when they were diagnosed and of the difficulties of living with juvenile diabetes and thanked him for his continual support.

Congressman Bonner expressed his sincere sympathy for the difficulties that juvenile diabetics live with and applauded them for their courage and encouraged them to be optimistic since one day, with the help of federal research funding, a cure will be found.
