Deb Gokie, Executive Director, Lincoln Chapter of JDRF

We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to meet with Representative Fortenberry (R-NE-1).  We were able to have an in-depth conversation about JDRF, NIH funding, and also what children and adults living with type I diabetes must deal with on a daily basis.  He was also very interested in our Outreach Program and how we reach out to families both locally and across Nebraska.
The Promise to Remember Me Campaign has been a great venue for our JDRF families to have a voice with our legislation, to feel that they can and are making a difference and it has also given us as staff the opportunity to reach out and educate our volunteers and families on how important it is for them to speak up and that, truly, every individual has an obligation to speak on what is important to each of them and it does make a difference.

About the Promise Campaign

The Promise Campaign is a coordinated effort to schedule and complete as many meetings as possible between representatives and senators and their constituents in their local districts. In addition to building relationships with federal lawmakers, it allows JDRF to continue the momentum and messaging established through our Children's Congress event.
