A Meaningful Dialog
On August 16, 2007, my daughter Morgan and I had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Representative Ron Klein (FL-District 22) along with two other JDRF Youth Ambassadors - Sydney Lubetkin (with mom Amy) and Nicholas Pollock (with mom Rose Marie). Both Amy and Rose Marie are JDRF board members and serve in committee capacities with the Greater Palm Beach County Chapter.
Our meeting provided a great opportunity for Morgan, Sydney and Nicholas to speak directly with their representative about living with diabetes and how important it is that a cure be found. Rep. Klein listened intently to the children and pledged his support of additional funding to support diabetes research. He further offered to speak to other U.S. Congressmen and Senators on behalf of JDRF. The dialog created at this meeting between JDRF volunteers and the Congressman was meaningful and impacted everyone in attendance. We left with a sense of accomplishment and increased hope for our children’s future. About the Promise Campaign
The Promise Campaign is a coordinated effort to schedule and complete as many meetings as possible between representatives and senators and their constituents in their local districts. In addition to building relationships with federal lawmakers, it allows JDRF to continue the momentum and messaging established through our Children's Congress event.
