The month of September has become even more important than it has been in past campaigns. With a full legislative agenda for Member of Congress, rumors abound in Washington that legislators won’t be home for the Columbus Day holiday! This may seem like an obstacle for our campaign efforts, but read on to find out how the campaign plans to work around it!

Campaign Goal in September:
Over the past two weeks, we’ve asked all of our Promise Campaign Coordinators to work on getting at least one meeting scheduled during September so the campaign numbers will be in pretty good shape going into October. We’re encouraging each one of them to pick up the phone and make calls to get just one meeting on the books. We’re already half way through September and taking action now will make certain that our Campaign Coordinators can accomplish our goal of scheduling one meeting each this month.

A ‘Promising’ Tip:
The likelihood of the Columbus Day holiday being canceled for Members of Congress is a possibility. So, now more that ever we’ll need to start taking advantage of weekend opportunities to complete Promise meetings. Don’t be surprised if you’re asked to attend a Promise meeting after a Saturday soccer game! We believe it’s safe to assume that, without a break to look forward to in October, legislators will often make attempts to visit their home states or districts over weekends. We’ve asked all Campaign Coordinator to start calling legislator offices ASAP to find out when they can get on their targeted legislators’ schedules and accomplish our goal for September.

Moving forward, coordinators in the Midwest and Northwest may not always get opportunities to complete meetings over weekends so they will try to take full advantage of their targeted legislators’ weekend trips while they still can!

Promise Online Feature:
We thought it would be a good idea to share with you a resource we provide to our Campaign Coordinators that we call the Promise Admin site. The Promise Admin site is designed to help coordinators stay organized! Not only can they search for advocates in a specific state or congressional district but they can also search for advocates that have registered to attend a Promise meeting and with just a few clicks of the mouse send out emails encouraging advocates to join others for meeting being scheduled. If you haven’t had the opportunity to register to a Promise Campaign meeting, click here.

Campaign Highlight:
This week’s highlight pertains to some special recognition that occurred during a Promise meeting for a legislator who has been a champion of our cause amongst his congressional colleagues. Click the following link to find out who was recognized during the meeting thanks to Nancy Stopper, Recruitment Leader and Campaign Coordinators for the Capitol Chapter:

Stay engaged and let’s keep the momentum for September!

About the Promise Campaign

The Promise Campaign is a coordinated effort to schedule and complete as many meetings as possible between representatives and senators and their constituents in their local districts. In addition to building relationships with federal lawmakers, it allows JDRF to continue the momentum and messaging established through our Children's Congress event.
