Won’t have time to coordinate meeting for Promise?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

After posting a blog earlier this week about helping the Promise Campaign during Diabetes Awareness month, we realized that some of you might not have time to organize meetings. No problem! You can still participate with advocacy efforts right from you computer. Continue reading to find out how you can help in less than 5 minutes!

Click here to find who your member of the House of Representatives is and note their Washington office phone number. Call the office, ask to speak to the health aide and mention the following:

  • Please co-sponsor HR 3668, legislation introduced in the House by Reps. Diana DeGette and Mike Castle to renew the Special Diabetes Program (SDP). (See below for additional points and/or click here):
    • Currently, a vigorous and focused research agenda is driving progress and translating basic science into new treatments and therapies.
    • A timely, multi-year renewal of the SDP is necessary for the NIH to ensure continuity of research and plan long-term clinical trials.
    • If Congress does not renew this program, federal support for type 1 diabetes research will be reduced by 35% and much of the most promising research will be delayed or halted completely.
If you complete a call, drop a comment in this blog or email advocacy@jdrf.org and let us know how it went!

Thanks for the comment Brian, I’ll shoot you an email with some details on how your friend and daughter can help.

I'm a Canadian in Canada. I can't help directly. My daughter is at the U Mass Amherst. She's a Canadian, but maybe, she can talk to the Representative for her district. I have a friend who is a medical doctor. Maybe, he can have a word with his Representative. Any work in the U.S. will help type 1 diabetics all over the world, including Canada.

About the Promise Campaign

The Promise Campaign is a coordinated effort to schedule and complete as many meetings as possible between representatives and senators and their constituents in their local districts. In addition to building relationships with federal lawmakers, it allows JDRF to continue the momentum and messaging established through our Children's Congress event.
